Absolutely excellent and long overdue. I did see the DVD listed on Amazon.com. One concern-it will be region one-viewable in the US, won't it?
Geoff
Do you know of any teaching resources for this series?
When the series was first broadcast on PBS in the early 1970s, there was a study guide published by PBS. It's a paperback book sort of like a "Cliff Notes" for the series, with a chapter for each episode, and program notes to the works of art and the musical excerpts used in the program. You might be able to find a copy of it on eBay.
The original book on which the series is based, "Civilisation: A Personal View," is available as a used book from Amazon, and there may be copies available in other bookstores.
Oh, I forgot to respond to Geoff's comment. The whole purpose of this blog's campaign regarding Civilisation DVDs was to get BBC to produce one that was region-one compatible. They've been selling a Euro DVD (Region 2) for years. For a long time, they told me there was no customer interest in a version for the US. Thanks to readers of this blog, we changed their minds!
